Good tans aren’t accidental.
They’re the result of properly prepared skin- clean, cool, and untouched. When that standard isn’t met, the outcome is never a surprise.
A flawless spray tan doesn’t start in the room. It starts days before, with intentional prep that respects your skin and our unhinged Houston weather.
Here’s how to prepare for a spray tan without sabotaging yourself.
Step 1: Exfoliate, Don’t Assault Your Skin
Yes, exfoliation matters. No, you don’t need to scrub like you’re removing evidence.
• Exfoliate 24-48 hours before your appointment
• Use a gentle mitt or scrub (the Chateau Hoes swear by our Exfoliating Mitt)
• Spend a little extra time on your elbows, knees, ankles, hands, and underarms
Houston humidity already keeps skin soft, but overdoing it leads to uneven absorption and patchy fading. We want smooth, not traumatized.
Step 2: Shaving & Waxing Timing Is Not Optional
Timing is everything.
• Shave at least 24 hours before
• Wax 48 hours before
Freshly opened pores + spray tan solution? Chaos, and not the “doing it for the plot” kind. Give your skin time to calm down.
Step 3: Hydrate…Then Stop
Hydrated skin holds color better. Point blank period.
• Moisturize daily leading up to your tan (Whipped Creme has the TSC stamp of approval)
• Stop moisturizing the day of your appointment
The night before is perfect. The morning of? Clean, dry, bare skin only.
Step 4: Come Correct
On the day of your spray tan:
• No lotion
• No deodorant
• No perfume
• No makeup
Houston heat and product residue is a barrier to an even glow. Use the Prep Towel provided on your tray to remove any remaining deodorant, perfume, residual tan, or sweat before your service.
Step 5: Dress Like You Know Better
Loose, dark, breathable clothing only.
Anything tight isn’t part of the process. If you forget, we keep sweats on hand for a reason!
Prep correctly and your tan won’t just look good…it’ll stay on its best behavior.
