The Ultimate Bride Guide

First off, if you've ended up on this page, congratulations are in order. Whether you have just gotten engaged, you are in the final stages of planning or your wedding is… ahem… in three days, rest assured you have come to the right place to chat everything wedding tan.

When discussing the perfect wedding tan, we always ask, how you envision yourself walking down the aisle. Are you wanting a subtle kiss of color for a winter wedding? Are you wanting a deep bronze glow that has your guests questioning whether you’ve already gone on your honeymoon? Whatever your desired aesthetic, make sure to discuss this with your artist. You want to feel like yourself on your big day. We are not looking to give your poor groom a jump scare wondering where his fiancé went? If you are a tan-a-holic, go for that bronze baddie look. If you’re a natural queen, keep it subtle. Your wedding is not the time to have a dramatic transformation.

That being said, trust your artist’s recommendation. When selecting the perfect formula for you, we’re taking more into consideration than just your desired aesthetic. Are you naturally olive? Do you have some cool-tone pink undertones? What’s your natural depth of color? Do you tan easily or as you more of burn only girl? What level of DHA (the active ingredient in spray tan solution) can your skin support? There are numerous things going through your artists’ head to ensure that you are the picture of radiance… and end up looking nothing like Anne Hathaway in Bride Wars.

If time allows, we definitely recommend a TRIAL. The ideal time to do your trial is prior to your hair and makeup trial. This allows for you to see the final look all together. Bonus points if you are able to line your trials up with a time that you will be wearing white or photographed (think bridal showers, engagement shoots, bachelorette parties, etc). That being said, you want to ensure that you are not doing a trial within 10 days of your wedding (so you have enough time to remove and properly prep).

So other than being orange cringe*,* the number one concern of Brides is RUB OFF. To fully understand how rub off occurs (and more importantly, how to prevent it) we need to discuss spray tans. Spray tans are a two part system, bronzer and DHA. Bronzer is a cosmetic dye that is added to spray tan solution as a guideline for your artist and an instant gratification for you as a client. It can lightly tint the skin however, for the most part, it rinses away on your first shower. DHA is the active ingredient in spray tan solution that reacts with the amino acids in dead skin cells to actually create the false pigment that lasts 7 to 10 days. So typically when we see clients have excessive rub off, it is due to the fact that not all bronzer is rinsed away. This is why recommend all brides spray tan 48-72 hours prior to their wedding. This allows you time for a rinse and 1-2 soapy showers.

Another option to avoid rub off is our “No Strings Attached” solution. A revolutionary bronzer-free, sweat proof formula that provides the same gorgeous glow without the risk of dress discoloration. This advanced service is only provided by our technicians who have more than 1000 tans under their belt so you can rest assured, you are in capable hands. This is a great option for clients who are concerned about dress discoloration, bronzer settling in pores, dry or mature skin clinging to the bronzer, etc.
